No. When you subscribe to the Family plan, every person you invite uses WeTree at no extra cost — whether you have 3 collaborators or 30. The plan covers your whole family.

You'll see a prompt to upgrade — we'll never charge you automatically or lock you out of your existing data. Your tree stays exactly as it is; you just won't be able to add more members, invite more collaborators, or add more Memories until you upgrade.

Founding Member pricing is our way of saying thank you to the first 100 families who choose to support WeTree with a paid plan. The rate is reduced from our standard pricing, and it's locked in permanently — for as long as you remain a continuous subscriber, you'll never pay more than the founding rate. Free accounts don't count toward the 100 — only paid conversions.

The Family plan moves to standard pricing: $6.99/month or $49.99/year. Existing founding members keep their rate.

Start with the free plan — it's genuinely useful and has no time limit. When you're ready to upgrade, you can do so from inside the app at any time. There's no free trial of the paid tier, but there's also no commitment required on the free plan.

Yes. Any member of your family tree can make a one-time contribution toward your subscription — even if they're not the account owner. Contributions add subscription time to your family's plan: they accumulate and, as they add up to whole months, extend your renewal date so the owner is billed less often. You'll see a history of who contributed and how many months were added. Contributions can even be made to a family still on the free plan — a nice way to encourage an owner to upgrade.

Yes. Separately from contributing to a specific family's subscription, you can make a one-time donation to support WeTree's development. WeTree is built and maintained by an independent founder, and donations help keep an independent, privacy-first genealogy product going. Donations are entirely optional and don't change your plan or features.

Yes. You can cancel your subscription from the billing settings in the app, and you'll keep all paid features for the rest of the period you've already paid for. After that, your family tree stays intact on the free plan — nothing is deleted. Photos remain fully accessible. Videos and audio you uploaded are kept safe, but playback pauses on the free plan; they start working again the moment you resubscribe, and you can always export your files to take them with you. Cancellation stops future renewals; it does not automatically refund past charges. See our Refund Policy for how to request a refund through Paddle.

Paddle is the merchant of record for WeTree purchases. Subject to Paddle's policies and applicable law, you can request a refund within 14 days of the transaction via paddle.net (or the receipt links in your purchase email). Full details: we-tree.app/refund.

Always. GEDCOM export is free on every plan, including free tier. Your family tree data belongs to you, and you can take it with you to any compatible service at any time.

The family tree owner holds the subscription and is responsible for billing. Any member can optionally contribute toward the cost, but the owner is the account holder.

All major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and more), plus PayPal. On supported devices, you can also check out with Apple Pay or Google Pay for one-tap payment. International customers will see locally relevant options (such as iDEAL in the Netherlands) automatically at checkout.

WeTree uses Paddle, a trusted payment provider, to handle billing and taxes securely on our behalf. Paddle is the registered seller for your subscription, so its name may appear on your card statement and receipts alongside WeTree. Your payment is safe, and your subscription is managed normally from within WeTree.
